The Orange Dunes of Erg Chebbi
The Moroccan Sahara
Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco’s two Saharan ergs – large dunes formed by wind-blown sand. The dunes reach a height of up to 150 meters and altogether span an area of 22 kilometers from north to south and up to 5-10 kilometers from east to west. A special feature of Erg Chebbi is the red/orange sand that make up the dunes.
The gigantic dunes provided a surprising amount of peace and serenity. Once inside, you could hear only desert winds blowing on sand. It was very surreal, peaceful, and psychedelic out there! An experience in it’s own right… Both Erg Chebbi and Morocco taught me to have infinite respect for the desert! Often overlooked in regards to amazing places to visit, the desert can be very tranquil and unique. Especially a desert of epic proportions such as the Sahara! 😀
There really is a reason it’s famous. There really are reasons why so many movies and documentaries are made about it. But words alone cannot convey the magic, the peace, the serenity, and the experience. It really must be visited first hand! You need to go there in person and let the hot, orange sands sink in-between your toes. Watch the sun set, then rise over the Sahara. I can guarantee, you will not regret it! 😉
