The Visual Splendor that is Sagrada Família
Located in Barcelona, Spain, the Sagrada Família is hands down, the most amazing building I have ever had the pleasure of setting foot in. Absolutely breathtaking! Antoni Gaudi’s grand vision is still being constructed, with an estimated completion date of 2025 (marking one century since his death).
Construction commenced in 1882 by architect Francisco Paula de Villar with Gaudí becoming involved in 1883 after Francisco resigned as the head architect. Taking over the project, Gaudí transformed it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Gaudí devoted his last years to the project, and at the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete.
Mesmerizingly complex in it’s details, one can only look in awe and wonder at the amazing structure that is this church. I spent 5 solid hours wandering around in amazement! I just didnt want to leave… and kept taking picture after picture. I felt lucky to be there when the sun rays were pouring in through the windows, and illuminating columns and floors with a show of color.
